i-KOS is a millennium baby- founded in 2000 by Myles Davidson as the service arm to findmedical.com, a directory site for the medical and pharmaceutical industry. As Myles recounts "manufacturers and distributes were clamoring to sign up to Findmedical - the trouble is most of them didn't have a web presence". In a typical entrepreneurial move what came next was the beginning of i-KOS as it became; as Myles started offering anyone without a website presence a basic site.
One of Myles potential customers was a small medical device company in Brighton - it was here that he first crossed paths with Richard Jones. Myles pitch led Richard to the conclusion that whilst findmedical was a great concept, it would be a massive undertaking to manage by hand. The timing was perfect, and Richard's first step into the freelance world was to create a custom Content Management System (using ASP and SQL) so that listed manufacturers could update their own entry.
In 2001 Richard joined i-KOS as Technical Director and immediately started work on developing a fully fledged Proprietary CMS (code name: SiteSolved). SiteSolved, an Enterprise Java Platform; J2EE for the technically minded, was developed and marketed by i-KOS from 2002 - 2009 and at its peak was running over 100 corporate website with an estimated 1000 admin user base.
In 2008 i-KOS ceased the development of SiteSolved in favour of adopting an Open Source CMS; as you will read on this site our platform of choice was and remains Drupal.
The real 'everyday' story of i-KOS is the building and growth of a team.
